Belarus collects customs duties for Russia and Kazakhstan in full in 2011

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) - In 2011 Belarusian customs fully met its obligations to levy customs duties for Russia and Kazakhstan, Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus Sergei Borisyuk told media.

Last year customs formalities were abolished on the internal borders of the Customs Union, said Sergei Borisyuk. Customs controls on the Customs Union internal borders were abolished due to the single information space created by the customs authorities of the three countries. “We have complete information about the product regardless of what crossing point of the common border it has entered or departed the Customs Union,” said the Deputy Chairman of the SCC.

In 2011 the customs bodies of Belarus transferred Br27.5 trillion in payments to the national budget, which was equivalent to more than $5.5 billion. In 2010, the customs transferred Br12.7 trillion in payments to the budget. One customs officer accounted for Br5.5 billion worth of payments to the national budget.

Workload on the customs service has increased not only in connection with customs obligations in the framework of the Customs Union. The flow of goods, means of transport has increased too. Number of trucks crossing the Belarusian part of the Customs Union border has increased by 13%, tonnage of goods by 14% as against 2010. Belarus’ export surged 62%.

With an increase in duties in H1 2011, Belarusians imported 254,500 transport vehicles. In 2010 this figure was at 192,000.

Time spent on customs procedures reduced from 55 to 15 minutes by late 2011. The use of information technologies made a great contribution to the effort. Now, electronic documents in export customs operations account for 82% of the total and nearly 50% in the import. By the end of 2012 we plan to use only e-documents, the official said.

In 2011 Belarus opened a new border crossing Domachevo, and the Kozlovichi-2 freight terminal at the Belarusian-Polish border. In 2012 the country will continue the development of the border with Lithuania and Latvia. Besides, customs services will continue integration in response to any present-day economic challenges. Since 1 January 2012 the Pinsk Customs has merged with the Brest Customs, the Mozyr Customs has made part of the Gomel Customs. The SCC reorganizes its structure, makes greater use of information technologies.
