Foreign trade in goods
of the Republic of Belarus
January-December 2007
According to the customs committee statistics*, in January-December 2007 international trade of the Republic of Belarus amounted to $52.9 billion, or 26.4 % up over January-December 2006. The trade with the CIS countries totaled $30 billion (56.8% of the total trade turnover), up 31.7% from January-December 2006. The trade with the non-CIS countries ramped up by 20% to $22.9 billion.

Belarus posted a foreign trade deficit of $4.3 billion (in January-December 2006 the deficit was $2.3 billion). The deficit of the trade with the CIS countries came to $7.8 billion (in January-December 2006 the deficit was $5.7 billion). The trade with the non-CIS countries resulted in a surplus of $3.5 billion (in January-December 2006 the surplus was $3.4 billion).
Exports of the Republic of Belarus increased by 23% over the same period 2006 to $24.3 billion
Exports to the CIS surged by 29.9% to $11.1 billion
Exports to the non-CIS countries increased by 17.7% to $13.2 billion
Imports of the Republic of Belarus ramped up by 29.4% this year to $28.6 billion
Imports from the CIS countries increased by 23.7% to $18.9 billion
Imports from the non-CIS countries were up by 23.4% to $9.7 billion.

Belarus increased trade with Russia (up $6.2 billion), the Netherlands (up $873 million), Ukraine (up $558.8 million), Latvia (up $549.4 million), Germany (up $436.3 million), China (up $364.7 million).
As against January-December 2006 the trade with the Russian Federation surged by 31.7% to $25.9 billion; the trade resulted in a deficit of $8.3 billion. Exports increased by 29%, imports – by 33.2%.
Trade with Ukraine was up 22.8% to $3 billion; the trade resulted in a deficit of $66.4 million. Exports were up 19.5%, imports – 26.1%.
Trade with Kazakhstan increased by $177 million to $510.8 million; the trade resulted in a surplus of $207.3 million.
Belarus announced a surplus in trade with other CIS countries.
Trade with Turkmenistan increased by $72.1 million to $87.7 million; with Moldova $49.8 million to $226.5 million; Azerbaijan $52.5 million to $89.7 million; Uzbekistan $45 million to $114.5 million.
Trade with the non-CIS countries accounted for 43.2% of the total trade of the Republic of Belarus.
Trade with the EU countries amounted to $16.9 billion (31.9% of the total trade of the Republic of Belarus), including exports $10.6 billion, imports $6.2 billion.
Trade with the WTO member states totaled $22.3 billion (42.1% of the total trade with the Republic of Belarus), exports $13.2 billion, imports $9.1 billion.
Belarus’ major non-CIS trading partners are the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Great Britain, China.
