Foreign trade of Republic of Belarus over January-June 2007
According to the customs statistics*, the foreign turnover of the Republic of Belarus in January-June 2007 totaled $23.2 billion, an increase of 19.8% over January-June 2006. The trade turnover with the CIS member states jumped by 22.8% as against January-June 2006 to $12.9 billion (55.6% of the total). The turnover with the countries outside the CIS soared by 16.2% to $10.3 billion.

In January-June 2007, the trade deficit stood at $1.6 billion (in January-June 2006 there was a $772.3 million deficit). The trade balance with the CIS member states was in deficit of $3 billion (in January-June 2006 the deficit was $2.9 billion) while the trade balance with the countries outside CIS was in surplus of $1.4 billion (in January-June 2006 the surplus was $2.2 billion).
Exports of the Republic of Belarus totaled $10.8 billion, an increase of 16.1% as against the same period 2006.
Exports to the CIS grew by 30.3% to $4.9 billion.
Exports to the countries beyond the CIS grew by 6.4% to $5.9 billion.
Imports of the Republic of Belarus soared by 23.2% to $12.4 billion.
Imports from CIS jumped by 18.6% to $8 billion.
Imports from the countries outside the CIS increased by 32.4% to $4.4 billion.
* Peculiarities of customs statistics of foreign trade (distinction between customs data and data provided by the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis):
- customs statistics does not allow for import of vehicles by natural persons for personal use;
- customs statistics does not allow for unorganized import/export of goods from/to Russia.

Trade with Russia grew substantially (by $1.9 billion), as well as with Germany (by $175.8 million), Ukraine (by $266.9 million), Latvia (by $275.7 million), China ($262.6 million).
Trade with the Russian Federation in January-April 2007 increased by 20.6% from the same period last year to $11 billion. The Belarus’ foreign trade deficit amounted to $3.2 billion. The exports rose by 29.1%; the imports upped by 16.4%.
The trade with Ukraine jumped by 26.5% to $1.3 billion. The foreign trade deficit made up $123.9 million. The exports increased by 15.8% and the imports went up by 36.9%.
The trade surplus with Kazakhstan stood at $95.8 million with the trade turnover having surged by $107.5 million to $257.9 million.
Belarus reported foreign trade surplus in trade with all other CIS member states too.
Belarus significantly intensified trade with Uzbekistan (by $21.9 million to $51.6 million), with Moldova (by $21.5 million to $102.1 million), with Azerbaijan (by $22.2 million to $41.6 million), Turkmenistan (by $58.2 million to $63.4 million).
The trade turnover with Georgia fell by $1.6 million following a decrease in exports.
Trade with countries outside the CIS accounted for 44.4% of the overall foreign trade of the Republic of Belarus.
Trade with the EU member states came to $7.5 billion (32.3% of the overall foreign trade of the Republic of Belarus), with the exports at $4.6 billion and imports at $2.8 billion.
Trade with the WTO member states amounted to $9.9 billion (42.8% of the overall foreign trade of the Republic of Belarus), with the exports at $5.8 billion and imports at $4.1 billion.
The main trade partners of Belarus abroad are the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, the UK and China.
