Brest customs officers stopped an attempt to illegally import more than 2 kg of mephedrone into Belarus.

Upon entering the country through the Brest checkpoint, a citizen of Ukraine, who was found to have a shipment of a particularly dangerous psychotropic substance, filed a declaration for the temporary import of his EAGLE car and stated that he had no prohibited goods.

After examining the contents of the bags belonging to him, the customs officer drew attention to the packages in two jackets. Оpening the inner linings, 5 plastic bags with a white crystalline substance were extracted from them.

The conclusion of the expert of the Office of the State Customs Committee for the Brest region confirmed that the seized substance is mephedrone.

During the operational search measures, customs officers identified and detained the person who is the recipient of this product.

Brest Customs has opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus on the illegal movement of a particularly dangerous psychotropic substance on a large scale across the EAEU border.

The sanction of the article provides for punishment up to imprisonment for up to 10 years.
