The service dog indicated the presence of a drug in the truck that arrived from Ukraine - customs officers found marijuana in a box for personal belongings
Gomel customs officers stopped an attempt to illegally import dangerous narcotic drugs into the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union. A service dog helped detect the banned substance.
A citizen of Ukraine was traveling to the territory of the EEU through the checkpoint "Novaya Guta" on a DAF truck. During customs control, the service dog's behavior indicated the possible presence of a drug in the truck.
Further examination confirmed the reaction of the dog: in the box for personal belongings of the cabin, a polymer package was found, which contained a substance of plant origin, visually similar to a narcotic drug.
An expert of the department of the State Committee of Forensic Examinations in the Gomel Region found that the substance is a dangerous narcotic drug that is not used for medical purposes – marijuana.
A citizen of Ukraine was detained. Gomel customs opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
The sanction of this article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years with or without a fine.
