Minsk-2 customs officials prevented an attempt to smuggle a dangerous narcotic drug mitragynine in an international postal mail.
According to the accompanying documents on the post from Ukraine, natural Indonesian henna was sent to the resident of the city of Minsk. However, the powdery substance of gray-green color, found in the package, aroused suspicion among the customs officers and was sent for examination.
Experts of the State Committee of Forensic Examinations found that the substance (200 g) is a particularly dangerous narcotic drug - mitraginine.
The consignee explained that he ordered Indonesian tea, made from the leaves of the South Asian plant kratom, to achieve a tonic and relaxing effect.
In the course of further verification, an empty package with the tag "Indonesian henna" was found at the Minsk resident, who had already undergone rehabilitation from drug addiction. Traces of mitragynine were found in the package.
Minsk-2 customs office instituted the criminal proceedings regarding movement of narcotic substance in IPM under part 2 of Art. 328-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
